Kansas City Airport Reopens After 2nd Security Threat In Less Than 3 Months

Operations at Kansas City International Airport resumed on Sunday afternoon after authorities investigated a potential security threat that briefly forced evacuations at the busy transport hub.

Airport officials said parts of the terminal were cleared earlier in the day as a precaution while law enforcement agencies assessed the situation. The evacuation began at around 11:15 a.m. local time, according to the Kansas City Aviation Department.

Security teams quickly responded to the alert, and airport police coordinated with the Federal Bureau of Investigation to investigate the reported threat. Authorities did not immediately release details about the nature of the incident but said the situation was handled according to standard safety protocols.

Following the investigation, officials confirmed that the airport was safe and that normal operations could resume. U.S. Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy announced the update on social media, stating that the security incident had been cleared and airport activity was returning to normal.

The temporary closure caused some disruption for travelers as sections of the airport were evacuated and flights experienced delays. Passengers were asked to remain calm and follow instructions from airport staff and law enforcement officers during the precautionary measures.

Located in Kansas City, Missouri, the airport is a major transportation hub serving the Midwest region of the United States. According to airport data, nearly one million passengers travel through the facility each month, making it an important gateway for both domestic and international travel.

Authorities have not indicated whether the incident will lead to further investigations, but officials emphasized that security procedures worked effectively to ensure the safety of passengers, staff and airport infrastructure.

Airport operations continued to stabilize throughout the afternoon as travelers gradually returned to terminals and airlines resumed scheduled services.
