Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has launched a comprehensive three-month plan to modernize and reform the provincial police, aiming to improve accountability, transparency, and citizen service. Chairing a high-level meeting in Lahore, she directed officials to implement technology-driven reforms within a strict deadline. The initiative seeks to transform policing culture and rebuild public trust.
Under the approved plan, authorities will install 14,000 body cameras and 700 panic buttons across Punjab to strengthen monitoring and public safety. Each police station will receive body cameras for at least 10 personnel, ensuring greater oversight during operations. Additionally, investigators will record video and audio statements to promote transparency and reduce allegations of misconduct.

Moreover, the government will introduce an online FIR tracking system, allowing citizens to register complaints about lost identification cards and important documents without visiting stations. Minor complaints must be resolved within two to three hours, while officers will collect public feedback regularly. Traffic management will also improve through the “One App” and Safe City Monitoring app.
Officials reported encouraging statistics during the briefing, revealing a 48 percent decline in overall crime and an 80 percent reduction in major offenses. Authorities stated that the improved average response time of 80 minutes has contributed to reducing negative public feedback. Approximately 16.8 million citizens visit police stations annually across the province.
