
Punjab has taken a historic step by making artificial intelligence mandatory in schools, as Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz launched a wide digital drive to modernize education and governance. She said AI will change how institutions think and work, therefore helping the province prepare students and officials for a fast-moving digital future.
Moreover, the provincial government has set up a Google Tech Valley Digital Transformation Advisory Board to guide reforms, promote innovation, and support the use of advanced technology across departments. This board will advise Punjab on digital governance, smart policymaking, and the safe integration of AI tools in public services.

For the first time in Pakistan’s history, cabinet members also received formal AI training under the direct leadership of the chief minister through a special workshop titled “Empowering Punjab with AI.” During the session, ministers learned how tools like Google Gemini can support policy planning, data analysis, and faster decision-making in government.
Furthermore, experts from Google for Education briefed participants on global digital learning models and AI-powered systems that improve teaching, administration, and service delivery. Officials revealed that over 300,000 student IDs have been created, while 200,000 students and 2,000 teachers have already received digital training under this programme.

At the same time, 3,000 teachers are undergoing master training on the Google for Education platform, ensuring that classrooms can effectively use modern digital tools. In addition, the Punjab government announced 1,000 scholarships for 10 organizations to promote digital journalism and responsible technology-based reporting.
Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz stressed that ethical and responsible AI use is key to better governance, transparency, and public service. She said that by combining technology with accountability, Punjab can deliver smarter policies, improve education quality, and build a future-ready society for coming generations.
