LARKANA: Girl students of Shaheed Benazir Bhutto Government Degree Girls College Naudero have appealed to the Shah Abdul Latif Bhittai University (SALU) Khairpur controller of examinations to declare their college as the examination centre for upcoming annual examinations of BA, BSc and MA, scheduled for early December 2017. They said far away examination centres present plenty of travelling difficulties to the girl students as well as higher travelling costs. They said that appearing in the examination with male candidates at Government Degree Boys College made them. When contacted, SALU Controller of Examinations Mehdi Shah said that he was in favour of establishing separate exam centres for girls in Girls Degree College Naudero. He said that a letter had sent to concerned authorities in that regard. He stated that as per the existing policy, a separate centre could only be set up for 300 or more students. But the girls cited the example of Madeji Town where in 2015, SALU established separate examination centres for 80 girls of BSc Part-I and II. It was reported that approximately 1,100 male students were enrolled at Boys Degree College Naudero; where four superintendents were posted by SALU for the exams, along with other invigilators. Meanwhile, Naudero Shehri Action Committee President Ghulam Hyder Narejo said that the demand of girl students was justified and should be granted. He said that old traditions still existed in Sindh and most parents do not want their daughters to study with boys, adding that separate exam centres should be set up. He appealed to the Sindh government to take notice of the matter. Published in Daily Times, November 15th 2017.
