Flood fears have intensified in Punjab after a sharp rise in the Sutlej River’s water levels. Authorities have already evacuated around 150,000 people from high-risk areas. The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) alerted Punjab’s Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) after detecting flood threats. As a result, evacuation operations began near the river. People from low-lying regions are being shifted to safer locations as a precaution.
At Ganda Singh Wala, the Sutlej has reached an extremely high flood level. The river flow has surged to 182,188 cusecs. Water levels at Bhukan Pattan and Baba Farid bridges continue to rise dangerously. Due to the flood, large portions of Manchanabad, Bahawalnagar, and Chishtian have been submerged. Local officials say thousands of acres of crops are now under water.
Rescue teams are working around the clock to help those affected. They have already moved hundreds of people and livestock to safety. Emergency shelters are being set up to house evacuees. Relief efforts also include medical aid and food distribution. Authorities are closely monitoring the situation to prevent further loss.
In Bahawalpur, floodwaters have reached Khairpur Tamewali and surrounding areas. Water is spreading fast across riverine zones. Many homes, fields, and schools are now underwater. The damage to crops and infrastructure could be severe. Officials warn that more rain could worsen the situation.
Meanwhile, the Ravi River is also flooding at Kot Naina and Jassar. A flow of 100,000 to 112,000 cusecs is passing through. This increases flood risk for nearby areas. Residents have been advised to stay alert and follow official guidelines. Authorities remain on high alert as the situation continues to evolve.
