US President Donald Trump said on Friday that a decision from Hamas on a “final proposal” for a Gaza ceasefire is expected within 24 hours. He expressed hope for progress in ending the conflict between Israel and Hamas.
Trump confirmed that Israel has already accepted the conditions needed to finalize a 60-day ceasefire. During this period, both sides would work toward a lasting peace agreement to end the ongoing war in Gaza.
When asked about Hamas’s stance, Trump replied, “We’ll see what happens. We are going to know over the next 24 hours.” A Hamas source earlier said the group seeks guarantees that the ceasefire would lead to a permanent end to hostilities.
Meanwhile, Israeli officials said that some details of the ceasefire deal are still being worked out. Despite talks, deadly Israeli strikes on Gaza continued, causing casualties among Palestinians.
Trump also mentioned his recent conversation with Saudi Arabia about expanding the Abraham Accords. This agreement normalizes ties between Israel and some Gulf nations, and Trump suggested that more countries could join soon.
The Israeli-Palestinian conflict escalated after Hamas’s attack on Israel in October 2023. Since then, thousands have died, and the humanitarian situation in Gaza has worsened. Both sides face international pressure to reach a peaceful resolution.
