Punjab University Syndicate recommended Rs 20.16 billion budget for the year 2025-26 for the approval of the university’s Senate during its 1758th meeting chaired by Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Muhammad Ali here on Thursday.
According to PU spokesperson, in the budget, Punjab University has increased scholarships for needy and talented students from Rs 380 million to Rs 406 million. The syndicate praised the administration’s austerity measures, the university’s budget deficit has shrunk to Rs 1.2 billion this year, down from Rs 2 billion previously.
Research grants have also been increased from Rs 229 million to Rs 297 million to boost the university’s international ranking and foster research that contributes to Pakistan’s socio-economic development.
Additional, scholarships will also be given to students of the university under the Honhaar Scholarship Programme, HEC and Punjab Education Endowment Fund.
Dr. Ali said the university aims to eliminate the budget deficit within three years by increasing internal revenue and strengthening the endowment fund. For the first time, university will receive Rs 780 million in grants from the Punjab government.
