Iran is reportedly moving towards acquiring China’s advanced J-10C fighter jets to boost its air force capabilities. This decision follows Iran’s unsuccessful attempts to procure Russia’s Sukhoi SU-35 jets for years due to geopolitical and sanction-related challenges.
International sanctions have long restricted Iran’s ability to upgrade its military hardware, leaving its air force without new platforms for an extended period. However, after the recent Israel-Iran conflict, acquiring J-10C jets is seen as a crucial strategic move that could shift the balance of power in the Middle East.
The J-10C fighter jet is known for its modern avionics and combat capabilities. It features a powerful Active Electronically Scanned Array (AESA) radar, which allows the pilot to detect and track enemy aircraft at long distances. Additionally, it carries PL-15 long-range air-to-air missiles with a striking capability of up to 200 kilometers, making it highly effective in aerial combat.
In recent history, Pakistan’s Air Force pilots demonstrated the effectiveness of the J-10C during border tensions with India, where the aircraft played a vital role in securing air dominance. This adds to the growing reputation of the J-10C as a modern and reliable multi-role fighter jet.
Back in 2015, China and Iran had reportedly planned a deal for the J-10C jets, but international sanctions and political hurdles prevented the agreement from being finalized. According to current foreign media reports, the two countries are once again discussing a possible deal that could see Iran receive up to 36 J-10C fighter jets, marking a significant upgrade to its air power.
