Ukrainian drone debris kills one, injures two in Russia’s Lipetsk region

A Ukrainian drone attack caused the death of a woman in her 70s and injured two others in Russia’s Lipetsk region on Thursday, according to regional governor Igor Artamonov. The drone was reportedly destroyed, but its falling debris hit a residential building near the regional capital.

Artamonov shared the details on Telegram, stating that debris had been reported in several areas. He confirmed that emergency and rescue teams are working in high-alert mode to assess the damage and assist those affected. However, the full extent of the damage remains unclear.

There has been no immediate response from Ukrainian officials regarding the incident. Both Russia and Ukraine have consistently denied deliberately targeting civilians during the ongoing war, which began more than three years ago. Despite this, thousands of civilians—mostly Ukrainian—have lost their lives in the conflict.

Lipetsk holds strategic value due to the presence of an important air base, known as a key training ground for Russia’s Aerospace Forces. Ukraine has carried out multiple air strikes in the region in an effort to weaken Moscow’s air power.

In August last year, Ukraine claimed responsibility for a successful strike on the Lipetsk airfield, which reportedly damaged guided bomb stockpiles and triggered large explosions. Kyiv continues to focus on disabling Russian air bases to prevent further attacks on Ukrainian territory.

As rescue efforts continue in Lipetsk, authorities warn residents to remain cautious and report any signs of unexploded debris. The situation highlights the ongoing risks faced by civilians on both sides of the conflict.
