All major entry roads into Peshawar closed on 6th Muharram

All major entry roads into Peshawar city were closed on 6th Muharram (Wednesday), as part of heightened security arrangements for the month of Muharram.

Security forces, including military and paramilitary units, are expected to be deployed across the city and other sensitive districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

According to official sources, a comprehensive security plan has been implemented. Over 70,000 police personnel have been deployed across the province to ensure safety during Muharram processions and gatherings. In Peshawar alone, additional security forces have been stationed at key sensitive locations.

Authorities have also assigned an extra 3,000 officials to various areas within the city. In light of potential terrorist threats, several hotels and medical plazas have been temporarily shut down.

Furthermore, Peshawar Cantt will remain completely closed until the 10th of Muharram, and the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) service will be suspended for two days.

In an effort to control movement and prevent any illegal activity, Afghan refugees have been restricted to temporary camps during this period.

A complete citywide security lockdown is planned to begin from the 7th of Muharram, reinforcing the government’s commitment to ensuring public safety during the holy month.
