An explosive report by the Fake News Watchdog has raised serious doubts about the authenticity of India’s Chandrayaan-3 lunar mission, branding it more of a media stunt than a scientific breakthrough.
According to the 65-page white paper, visuals of the moon landing—aired live to millions—were allegedly created using computer-generated graphics (CGI). The report claims the footage was staged, and the command centre scenes shown on TV were choreographed to dramatize the mission.
Furthermore, the watchdog alleges that Chandrayaan-3 did not land at the Moon’s south pole, as claimed. Instead, it landed 630 kilometers away from the reported location. The mission reportedly failed to provide any meaningful scientific data or post-landing rover footage due to technical issues.
The report also questions ISRO’s transparency and criticizes India’s government for using the space program to boost national pride and political image. It suggests that the BJP-led government is leveraging space missions like Chandrayaan-3 for regional power projection and military ambitions.
Additionally, the paper connects the mission to India’s military interests, referencing previous defence space projects like “Mission Shakti” and the creation of the Defence Space Agency. It also notes that 10 of India’s 56 satellites are used for military surveillance and communication.
In conclusion, the report accuses Indian media of manipulating public perception through AI-driven content and propaganda. It calls for greater transparency and ethical oversight in India’s space programme, questioning whether its objectives truly serve science or politics.
