State bank of Pakistan declares bank holiday on july 1, public services to pause

KARACHI — The State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) has announced a bank holiday on Tuesday, July 1, 2025, during which all banks, Development Finance Institutions (DFIs), and Microfinance Banks (MFBs) will close their doors to the public. This closure means no public banking services will be available on that day.

According to an official notification released by the SBP on Friday, the bank holiday applies specifically to public dealings. Despite the closure to customers, employees of banks, DFIs, and MFBs will still report to work and carry out their regular office duties behind the scenes.

This scheduled holiday aims to provide a break in regular banking operations while allowing internal work and administrative processes to continue uninterrupted. Customers are advised to plan their banking needs accordingly and complete urgent transactions before the holiday.

The SBP’s announcement affects all financial institutions under its supervision, including commercial banks and microfinance institutions. It is a routine holiday observed to maintain regulatory and operational requirements in the banking sector.

Banks usually notify their customers ahead of such holidays to minimize inconvenience and ensure smooth financial transactions. Digital banking services such as online transfers and mobile banking will likely remain operational, although customers are encouraged to confirm with their banks.

Overall, the bank holiday on July 1 marks a temporary pause in public banking services, while employees continue working to support uninterrupted financial system functions. Customers should plan in advance to avoid any disruption during this one-day closure.
