US President Donald Trump has confirmed that a ceasefire between Israel and Iran is now in effect. In a post on Truth Social, Trump wrote in all caps, “THE CEASEFIRE IS NOW IN EFFECT. PLEASE DO NOT VIOLATE IT!” The announcement came just hours after Iran launched multiple missile attacks that killed four people in the Israeli city of Beersheba, according to Israel’s national ambulance service.
Earlier, Trump had declared a complete ceasefire to end the 12-day war, while also suggesting that both sides would be allowed to finish ongoing missions before fully implementing the truce. However, explosions were reported near Tel Aviv and Beersheba shortly before his statement, raising doubts about how immediately the ceasefire would hold.
Iran’s SNN news agency confirmed that Tehran had fired its last round of missiles just before the ceasefire began. Meanwhile, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi stated that Iran would stop its military response only if Israel halted its “illegal aggression” against the Iranian people. He added that a final decision on stopping operations would be taken later.
A senior White House official revealed that the ceasefire was brokered during a call between Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. Israel agreed to the truce on the condition that Iran would not launch any further attacks. Trump praised both countries for having the “Stamina, Courage, and Intelligence” to end what he called “THE 12 DAY WAR.”
Netanyahu’s office later confirmed that Israel had accepted Trump’s ceasefire proposal. The statement said Israel had met its goal of eliminating Iran’s nuclear and missile threats and thanked the US for its support. Netanyahu also warned that any violation of the ceasefire would be met with a strong response.
This truce follows several days of rising tensions, with Israel and the US targeting Iran’s nuclear sites, claiming Tehran was nearing nuclear weapons capability—something Iran denies. However, Iran’s Supreme Leader has warned that if they ever chose to develop nuclear weapons, “no one could stop them.”
