Oil companies across Pakistan have imposed a new restriction, banning the supply of petrol to fuel stations that exceeds their daily sales averages. The move aims to discourage hoarding amid rising demand.
According to Dawn News, this step was taken to curb artificial shortages and panic buying. Companies will now provide petrol based only on the average daily sales recorded between June 1 and June 15, limiting excess orders.
Petroleum Dealers Association leader Shoaib Khan revealed that fuel pumps in several cities are receiving lower-than-usual supplies. Many pumps are only getting up to 50% of the quantity they are requesting from oil companies.
Association official Sameer Hussain noted that this shortage is especially affecting pumps with smaller stock levels. However, he added that most petrol stations across major urban areas are still receiving regular supplies.
Meanwhile, sources at Pakistan State Oil (PSO) confirmed that a major shipment carrying 70 million litres of fuel has departed from Fujairah and is en route to Karachi. This is expected to ease the supply situation in the coming days.
Overall, officials urge the public to avoid panic buying and maintain normal consumption. They reassured citizens that additional fuel shipments are being arranged to stabilize the market.
