Pakistan calls high-level security meeting amid growing Iran-US tensions

ISLAMABAD – Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has convened a crucial meeting of the National Security Committee (NSC) on Monday to discuss the rising tensions between Iran and the United States. The high-level session is being held at the Prime Minister’s House and includes both military and civilian leadership.

In a key development, Field Marshal Asim Munir is expected to brief the participants about his recent visit to the United States. His insights are likely to shape the discussion on Pakistan’s strategic position in the face of escalating regional instability. Along with that, the meeting will also review Pakistan’s internal and border security.

Moreover, Defence Minister Khawaja Asif, Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi, Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar, and other senior officials are attending the meeting. The session comes at a time when diplomatic decisions and military preparedness have become crucial due to intensifying Middle East conflicts.

Earlier in the day, PM Shehbaz held a telephonic conversation with newly elected Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian. During the call, he strongly condemned the recent US strikes on Iran’s nuclear facilities and expressed Pakistan’s full support for Iran’s sovereignty and people. He also offered prayers for the victims and wished a speedy recovery for the injured.

In a separate statement, the Foreign Office echoed Pakistan’s concern over the violation of international law. The spokesperson emphasized Iran’s right to self-defence under the UN Charter and urged all parties to show restraint. Pakistan also highlighted the importance of civilian protection and called for immediate dialogue and diplomacy.

As tensions rise in the region, Pakistan’s leadership is taking swift steps to manage its foreign policy and national security priorities. The outcomes of today’s NSC meeting could influence Pakistan’s future role in regional peace efforts.
