SEOUL – All seven members of global K-pop sensation BTS have now officially completed their mandatory military service, marking a significant moment for fans worldwide eagerly awaiting the group’s reunion.
Suga, the last member to finish his duty, was discharged from alternative service on Saturday after completing his remaining leave earlier this week. Unlike the other members, he served as a social service agent due to health reasons.
Big Hit Entertainment, BTS’s management agency, confirmed there would be no public event for Suga’s release to avoid safety concerns related to large crowds. His discharge signals the full return of BTS to the entertainment scene.
In recent weeks, RM and V were discharged from active duty, followed closely by Jimin and Jung Kook. Jin, the group’s eldest member, completed his service in June 2024, while J-Hope was released in October 2024.
South Korean law requires all able-bodied men between 18 and 28 to serve in the military for 18 to 21 months. BTS members postponed enlistment under a 2020 revision of the Military Service Act, allowing top K-pop stars to delay service until age 30.
Although debates over exemptions for BTS made headlines in 2022, the group’s agency confirmed that all seven would fulfill their duties. Now, with military service behind them, BTS is set to reunite as a complete group in 2025.
