Three killed in Naran glacier collapse

A tragic glacier collapse near the popular Sohni Waterfall in Naran claimed the lives of three tourists on Friday. The victims have been identified as 35-year-old Tahir, 13-year-old Abu Bakr, and 22-year-old Tayyab – all residents of Lahore. According to officials, the glacier broke off unexpectedly, trapping the tourists. Rescue efforts were launched immediately by the Kaghan Development Authority (KDA) and Rescue 1122, but the three could not be saved. Advisor to the Chief Minister on Tourism, Zahid Chanzeb, expressed profound grief over the loss of lives and extended condolences to the bereaved families. He praised the timely response of KDA and Rescue 1122 teams in managing the aftermath of the disaster. Efforts are currently underway to transport the bodies of the deceased back to Lahore. In the wake of the incident, the tourism advisor issued a strong advisory urging visitors to avoid unstable areas and to refrain from taking selfies in dangerous locations. He stressed the need for heightened awareness regarding safety measures at tourist spots. “The government is committed to making safety arrangements at tourist destinations more effective,” he said, adding, “Enjoy the natural beauty, but always prioritize safety.”
