Khawaja Asif credits hybrid governance for strengthened Pakistan-US ties

ISLAMABAD – Defence Minister Khawaja Asif has credited Pakistan’s recent diplomatic and regional successes to its “hybrid governance model,” praising the leadership of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Field Marshal Asim Munir. He stated that this combined civil-military approach has helped Pakistan achieve key economic and strategic gains.

In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Asif called the recent meeting between US President Donald Trump and Field Marshal Munir an “unprecedented development” in the history of Pakistan-US relations. He highlighted that no US President had ever invited and held such direct talks with a Pakistani army chief before.

According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the meeting took place at the White House in the Cabinet Room, followed by a visit to the Oval Office. President Trump was accompanied by Secretary of State Marco Rubio and US Special Representative Steve Witkoff, while Field Marshal Munir was joined by Pakistan’s National Security Adviser.

During the discussion, both sides exchanged views on pressing global issues, including the conflict between Iran and Israel. They stressed the importance of peaceful solutions and regional stability through diplomatic dialogue. This shows Pakistan’s active role in supporting peace efforts across the region.

Field Marshal Munir also expressed Pakistan’s gratitude to President Trump for helping defuse recent tensions with India. He appreciated the US President’s constructive role in facilitating a ceasefire and promoting regional peace during a critical time.

Khawaja Asif concluded that Pakistan’s growing role on the global stage reflects the success of its hybrid model, which ensures coordination between civilian leadership and the military. He believes this balanced system is helping Pakistan navigate complex challenges and build stronger international alliances.
