Senior US officials are preparing for a possible military strike on Iran in the coming days, Bloomberg News reported, citing sources familiar with the situation. The report said the situation remains fluid and plans could change, but some sources mentioned that a strike might happen over the weekend. This development adds to growing concerns about escalating conflict in the Middle East.
Speaking outside the White House, former President Donald Trump avoided confirming any final decision on joining Israel’s campaign against Iran. He said, “I may do it. I may not do it,” leaving the possibility open. Trump also mentioned that Iranian officials had sought talks in Washington, but added that it might be too late for diplomatic efforts.
Meanwhile, European foreign ministers from Germany, France, and Britain are scheduled to hold nuclear talks with Iran in Geneva this Friday. Their goal is to persuade Iran to commit firmly to using its nuclear program only for peaceful purposes. However, as diplomatic efforts continue, many residents of Tehran are fleeing the city amid intensified Israeli airstrikes.
The conflict has seen missile attacks and drone interceptions, with Israel targeting Iran’s nuclear sites and military infrastructure. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said the campaign is “progressing step by step” to eliminate threats posed by Iran’s nuclear facilities and missile arsenal. Netanyahu also thanked Trump for his continuous support during the crisis.
Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei warned the US against military intervention, calling it a path to “irreparable damage.” Despite the threats, military analysts believe Israel might need US help to destroy Iran’s Fordow nuclear enrichment site, which is heavily fortified underground near Qom.
With tensions high, Trump’s team is reportedly weighing options that include joining Israel in striking Iranian nuclear sites. This situation remains volatile as world powers watch closely, hoping to avoid a wider war in the already fragile region.
