Terrorists targeted a key gas pipeline in Lakki Marwat district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, blowing it up with explosives, police officials reported on Tuesday. The pipeline was responsible for supplying natural gas from the Batani gas field to Punjab province.
According to Qudratullah, assistant spokesperson for the District Police Officer (DPO) of Lakki Marwat, the blast occurred in the Torwah seasonal stream area. The explosion caused a massive fire and led to significant gas leakage, indicating the scale of the sabotage.
Describing the incident as a “major act of sabotage,” Qudratullah stated that foreign-backed terrorists were believed to be behind the attack. The explosives targeted a critical section of the pipeline, aiming to disrupt gas supplies and create instability.
Security forces quickly reached the site and cordoned off the area. Emergency response teams were also dispatched to control the fire and assess the extent of the damage. Authorities said swift action helped prevent further destruction.
An investigation has been launched to identify and apprehend those responsible. Officials condemned the attack, calling it an attempt to destabilize the region and disrupt essential energy infrastructure. Since the banned Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) ended its ceasefire with the government in November 2022, there has been a noticeable rise in terror activities, especially in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan.
