Trump to hold key lunch meeting with Pakistan’s field marshal Asim Munir in Washington

US President Donald Trump is scheduled to meet Pakistan’s Chief of Army Staff, Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, for a private lunch on Wednesday, the White House confirmed. The meeting will take place in the Cabinet Room and is expected to focus on important bilateral and regional issues.

Field Marshal Munir is currently on an official visit to the United States. Earlier this week, he met with the overseas Pakistani community in Washington DC, where he received a warm and enthusiastic welcome. The gathering praised the Pakistan Armed Forces for their bravery and professionalism during recent military operations.

During his interaction with the diaspora, Munir appreciated their vital contributions to Pakistan’s economy and global image through remittances, investments, and achievements. He emphasized the importance of continued engagement and collaboration with overseas Pakistanis to tackle common challenges and promote progress.

This visit holds strategic importance as it comes shortly after Trump’s diplomatic efforts helped broker a ceasefire between Pakistan and India. The ceasefire ended an 87-hour military conflict triggered by tensions over the Pahalgam incident in Indian-administered Kashmir, which resulted in significant casualties on both sides.

The conflict escalated with cross-border airstrikes and Pakistan’s “Operation Bunyan-um-Marsoos,” which reportedly downed six Indian jets. The ceasefire agreement, facilitated by the United States, has brought much-needed calm to the volatile region. Trump’s meeting with Field Marshal Munir is expected to further strengthen ties and discuss ongoing peace efforts.
