PML-N leader Ch Tanveer arrested in ex-PTI MPA’s murder case

Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader and former senator Chaudhry Tanveer has been arrested by Rawalpindi police in connection with the murder of former MPA Chaudhry Adnan.

According to media reports, Chaudhry Tanveer’s pre-arrest bail plea was rejected by Justice Sadaqat Ali Khan of the Lahore High Court’s Rawalpindi bench, leading to his immediate arrest.

The case stems from the murder of Chaudhry Adnan, a former member of the Punjab Assembly elected in 2018 from PP-11 (Rawalpindi) on a Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) ticket. Adnan later distanced himself from PTI following the events of May 9 and contested the recent elections as an independent candidate. He was shot dead near the Police Lines Gate in Rawalpindi, and a murder case was registered at the Civil Lines police station.

In a new development, the plaintiff in the case, Chaudhry Nadeem Iqbal, has also filed a separate FIR against a key witness, Pervez, son of Afzal, accusing him of retracting his earlier statement and conspiring with the accused. The FIR claims that both Pervez and another witness, Aftab, son of Abdul Qayyum, had initially told the plaintiff that Chaudhry Tanveer ordered Sohail Anjum Feroz to carry out the killing of Adnan in their presence.

The plaintiff further stated that both witnesses had accompanied him to the Civil Lines police station and recorded their statements before the investigating officer. However, Pervez allegedly later denied his earlier statement under Section 164 of the Criminal Procedure Code before a magistrate, severely weakening the prosecution’s case. Police have confirmed the registration of the new case against Pervez on charges of defection and misleading the investigation. The investigation into Chaudhry Adnan’s murder is ongoing as authorities continue to gather evidence and record witness statements.
