The Pakistan Billiards & Snooker Association (PBSA) has made an urgent appeal to the federal government for the release of long-pending special grants. Despite achieving international success, including a gold medal at the IBSF World Men’s Snooker Championship in Doha in November 2024, the association claims it has received no financial support since July last year.
In a press release issued on Tuesday, PBSA warned that Pakistan’s participation in major upcoming international snooker events is at risk. The association stated that it is entering the new snooker season (2025–2026) while facing a serious financial crisis, and it may not be able to sustain operations without immediate funding.
Over the past year, PBSA self-financed Pakistan’s participation in four key international tournaments held in Mongolia, Qatar, Sri Lanka, and Doha. However, officials say this is no longer sustainable, especially with the Asian Team & 6 Red Championship in Sri Lanka, the Commonwealth Championship in Mauritius, and the World Games in China approaching quickly.
Due to these financial pressures, the PBSA fears it might fail to meet its international commitments this season. It also expressed concern about maintaining the domestic snooker circuit and the association’s administrative operations if the grants remain withheld.
The PBSA highlighted the dedication and outstanding performance of Pakistani snooker players on the global stage, emphasizing that they deserve full support from the authorities. It has requested the Federal Minister for Inter-Provincial Coordination (IPC) to step in and ensure the immediate release of the promised funds.
With timely assistance, the association hopes to continue promoting snooker across the country and ensure Pakistan’s strong presence at international snooker events in the months ahead.
