ISLAMABAD – Pakistan has officially aligned itself with China’s Global Development Initiative (GDI) to accelerate its progress toward achieving the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). With strong bilateral ties and ongoing cooperation under the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), Pakistan is in a strategic position to embed GDI into its national development agenda.
The Global Development Initiative, introduced by China, focuses on eight key areas such as poverty reduction, climate resilience, green growth, and digital innovation. Pakistan aims to adopt a multi-stakeholder approach, engaging policymakers, youth, and academics to make GDI a practical and action-based platform for development.
To begin with, the government plans to hold consultations with parliamentarians and political leaders to integrate GDI into national strategies. By securing political support, officials believe GDI can be effectively implemented across multiple sectors, aligning it with Vision 2025 and the broader SDG roadmap.
Public awareness will also play a vital role in mainstreaming GDI. Campaigns will be launched to familiarize citizens with the initiative and promote its association with innovation, inclusion, and sustainable growth. These efforts will aim to position GDI as a trusted framework for national progress.
In addition, youth involvement and academic research will form a strong foundation. The plan includes establishing GDI research hubs in universities, running student-led activities, and updating curricula to reflect GDI’s themes. This will empower young people to actively contribute to Pakistan’s development journey.
Furthermore, the initiative seeks to connect development with global security concerns. By focusing on poverty, climate change, and digital threats, Pakistan aims to use GDI to strengthen human security. It also plans to promote regional peace and international cooperation to ensure long-term development continuity.
