Punjab government has included 6 mega projects for the transport sector in the budget for the upcoming fiscal year 2025-26.
According Planning and Development (P&D) department sources, it has been decided to allocate Rs310 billion for the projects of the transport department. Over Rs80 billion will be allocated for the world-class Yellow Line train project in Lahore, which will be 24 kilometers long from Thokar Niaz Baig to Harbanspura.
Likewise, Rs.60 billion has been allocated for 600 electric buses and 33 bus depots in other districts of Punjab, they said. It has also been decided to build a Transport Command and Control Center for modern traffic monitoring, for which Rs5.6 billion has been allocated, and this building will be completed in two years.
The budget also includes a plan to start a metro bus service in Faisalabad at a cost of Rs120 billion, which will be completed by December 2026, while Rs30 billion has been allocated for the metro bus service in Gujranwala and the project is targeted to be completed during the next financial year itself.
