Chief Collector of Customs (CCC), Khwaja Khurram Naeem here Sunday said that customs clearance for over 700 containers currently parked at Torkham will commence on June 16. These containers are laden with imported soapstone and coal from Afghanistan. Speaking to journalists, Naeem confirmed that Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has extended deadline for acquiring Certificate of Origin until June 30. This extension will facilitate clearance of all parked vehicles at Torkham, Landikotal, and Machini check-posts. Meanwhile, Torkham Custom Agents Clearance body has welcomed the FBR’s decision to extend certificate deadline. They noted that staff accompanying each container had been enduring significant discomfort due to intense summer heat in the area, which also posed risks to their lives and vehicles.
