Govt pledges high-quality seeds for farmers, vows zero tolerance for fake suppliers

The Ministry of National Food Security and Research held the third Board of Governors meeting of NSDRA in Islamabad. Federal Minister Rana Tanveer Hussain led the meeting and stressed the urgent need for quality, transparency, and timely seed supply. He made it clear that farmers must get certified and high-quality seeds without delay.

The Minister strongly rejected any move to bring fake seed companies back into the system. He said cheating farmers is unacceptable. He emphasized building a transparent and farmer-friendly seed system, stating the government will not allow compromise in this vital area.

During the meeting, four new members were approved to strengthen NSDRA’s governance. A clear and fair service structure for new staff was also finalized. This aims to boost the authority’s capacity and professionalism while improving the working environment.

The Minister highlighted the importance of cotton and oilseed development. He said that quality seeds are the foundation of good harvests. Therefore, research and private sector cooperation must grow to improve seed standards across Pakistan.

Various stakeholders, including top officials and seed company representatives, joined the meeting. They shared valuable suggestions, which the Minister welcomed. He urged all related bodies to coordinate well and make sure farmers benefit from every seed policy. The Minister also reaffirmed that NSDRA will become a modern and effective body to help Pakistan move toward agricultural self-sufficiency.
