Oil & Gas Development Company Limited (OGDCL) announced a significant gas and condensate discovery at its exploratory well Faakir-1 in Khairpur, Sindh. The company shared the news through a notice to the Pakistan Stock Exchange on Thursday. The well is operated by OGDCL with a 95% stake, while its partner, Government Holdings (Private) Limited (GHPL), holds the remaining 5%.
Faakir-1 was drilled to a depth of 4,185 meters in the Sembar Formation and began drilling on December 31, 2024. Using OGDCL’s in-house expertise and cooperation with GHPL, the team conducted tests on the Lower Goru Formation, focusing on the massive sand layers. The results showed promising production levels.
Two Drill Stem Tests (DSTs) revealed a daily production capacity of 6.4 million cubic feet of gas and 55 barrels of condensate through a choke size of 32/64 inches. This confirms the presence of commercially viable hydrocarbon reserves at the site. The discovery marks an important breakthrough for the Bitrisim Exploration Licence.
OGDCL said this find will boost the commercial potential of the exploration area and extend the licence’s life. The discovery is also expected to help reduce Pakistan’s energy gap by adding to domestic gas reserves. It strengthens OGDCL’s hydrocarbon base and supports the country’s energy needs.
Last year, OGDCL had found natural gas at the Shahu-1 well, also in Khairpur district. This latest discovery continues to build on Sindh’s growing role in Pakistan’s energy sector. The company remains focused on exploring indigenous resources to meet the nation’s demand.
