LAHORE: The Punjab Food Authority (PFA) on Wednesday sealed a confectionery unit for failing to meet food standards laid down by the authority by PFA during an operation against substandard food suppliers and manufactures in the provincial metropolis. The PFA also issued notices to 42 food points and imposed a fine of Rs 31,000 to many other eateries. According to details, Nadeem Sweets production unit was sealed for not having food licence to run business, improper arrangements of cleanliness at its production area. Besides, there were no medical certificates of workers. PFA Spokesman Hafiz Qaiser said that on the directive of PFA Director General Noorul Amin Mengal, food safety teams under the supervision of food safety officers (FSOs) conducted raids on hundreds of eateries and examined food quality. The PFA teams examined eateries located in Gulberg, Model Town, Ferozepur Road, Bagrian Chowk, Iqbal Town, Johar Town and other areas of the city. He said that PFA had rolled up its sleeves to ensure availability of quality products and the authority would deal with an iron hand with violators of rules and regulations. He added that food points were sealed and imposed fine due to presence of open drains in processing area, abundance of insects, failing to maintain a clean working environment and providing substandard food to the people. Separately, The PFA also disposed of 30 liters adulterated milk and issued notices to several food points during operation held against violators in Kasur district.
