Pakistan strongly denies Indian claim of targeting golden temple

ISLAMABAD – Pakistan has firmly rejected India’s recent accusation that it tried to target the Golden Temple, one of the most sacred sites in the Sikh religion. The Foreign Office said such claims were completely false and aimed at misleading the public and international community.

A senior Indian Army official recently alleged that Pakistan attempted to attack the Golden Temple with drones and missiles during the night of May 7 and 8, 2025. However, Pakistan responded by calling the allegations “baseless” and said they contradict the country’s values and respect for religious sites.

Foreign Office Spokesperson Shafqat Ali Khan clarified that Pakistan holds all places of worship, including the Golden Temple, in the highest regard. He stated that Pakistan could never consider targeting a religious site and that such claims are not only false but also irresponsible.

Instead, Pakistan accused India of targeting places of worship within Pakistan during the night of May 6 and 7. The spokesperson said that by making these claims, India is trying to shift global attention away from its own unacceptable actions. He urged the international community to take notice of India’s behavior.

Furthermore, Pakistan highlighted its long-standing commitment to preserving Sikh heritage. Each year, thousands of Sikh pilgrims visit religious sites in Pakistan, including Gurdwara Kartarpur Sahib, which remains open through a visa-free corridor. Pakistan described itself as a proud guardian of Sikh religious sites.

In conclusion, Pakistan called the Indian accusation “completely incorrect” and emphasized its efforts to promote religious harmony. The Foreign Office stressed that such misleading claims only harm peace efforts and distract from the real issues needing attention in the region.
