Sarah Khan faces backlash for rejecting feminism, calls herself a ‘traditional woman’

Actress says she prefers old-fashioned gender roles and enjoys being treated with traditional respect

Popular Pakistani actress Sarah Khan is facing criticism on social media after she openly rejected feminism and expressed her preference for traditional gender roles during a recent interview.

Speaking to Independent Urdu, Sarah said she doesn’t consider herself a feminist. Instead, she described herself as a woman from the old times who values the traditional roles of men and women in society.

“I don’t want to stand in long lines to pay bills. I enjoy staying at home and want to be treated the way women used to be treated in the past,” she said. Sarah added that men should be given the space they deserve so that women can live peacefully.

Her comments quickly went viral, sparking debate across social media. Critics argued that feminism is about speaking up for oppressed women and not about rejecting convenience or household roles.

One user commented, “Feminism means standing up for the rights of women who are mistreated. It’s not just about waiting in lines or doing house chores.” Another added, “This mindset is exactly why Pakistan struggles to progress—over half the population remains confined to their homes.”

Meanwhile, Sarah also reacted to news that her Instagram account, along with other Pakistani celebrities’, was blocked in India. She said her husband, singer Falak Shabir, informed her through a screenshot. “I wasn’t personally upset, but I felt bad for my Indian fans who can no longer see my content,” she stated.
