A dangerous heatwave continues to affect large parts of Pakistan, with many cities experiencing extreme temperatures and high heat indexes. According to the latest data from the Meteorological Department, Sibi became the hottest city, with the mercury soaring to a scorching 50°C, breaking recent temperature records.
In Turbat, the temperature reached 45°C, but due to high humidity, the real-feel temperature touched 49°C. The situation is similar in other major cities. Hyderabad, Lahore, Faisalabad, and Peshawar all recorded 42°C, but the heat felt like 47°C due to poor air circulation and humidity.
Islamabad and Rawalpindi were also badly affected, with both cities recording 45°C, but the heat index pushed it to 48°C. Karachi, while slightly cooler, still faced discomfort with 34°C, which felt like 38°C, mainly due to high humidity and lack of sea breeze.
In Sindh and Balochistan, Larkana and Nawabshah recorded 49°C, while Sukkur, Dadu, and Jacobabad experienced 48°C. Even Quetta, known for milder weather, saw a significant rise with 40°C, much higher than its seasonal average.
As the heat intensifies, there’s been a sharp spike in the demand for cold drinks, ice, and cooling appliances. Meanwhile, hospitals and clinics are reporting a rise in heatstroke, dehydration, and other heat-related illnesses. The public has been urged to stay indoors during peak hours, wear light clothing, and stay hydrated.
Karachi’s hot weather is expected to persist over the next 24 hours, according to the Met Office. Authorities have advised caution, especially for the elderly, children, and those with pre-existing health conditions.
