A Sri Lankan military helicopter crashed into the Maduru Oya reservoir on Thursday, killing six personnel and injuring six others. The Bell 212 aircraft was carrying 12 individuals, including members of the Special Forces and the Air Force, when it went down during a routine training flight. The crew was reportedly preparing for an upcoming passing-out parade. Eyewitnesses reported seeing the helicopter flying at a low altitude before it suddenly lost control and crashed into the water. Rescue teams were dispatched immediately and managed to recover the bodies of the deceased and transport the injured to local hospitals. Among those killed were elite Special Forces operatives and experienced Air Force crew members. Authorities said at least two of the injured remain in critical condition, and their identities are being withheld until families are notified. Military officials have confirmed that an investigation is underway to determine the cause of the crash. However, no technical or environmental reasons have been officially stated yet. The Air Force has promised a detailed report following a full inquiry.
