All the private and public sector educational institutions, including universities, colleges, and schools, have been closed for an indefinite period across Azad Jammu Kashmir with immediate effect in view of the escalating situation caused by the recent unprovoked Indian aggression from across the line of control, working boundary, and international border. The educational institutions in AJK shall remain closed till further orders, according to notifications issued on Thursday by the managements of the concerned state-run and private sector universities, colleges, and schools in AJK. Meanwhile, the Punjab government has announced the closure of all educational institutions across the province for two days due to security concerns, Provincial Education Minister Rana Sikandar Hayat announced Thursday. All public and private schools, colleges, and universities will remain closed on Friday, May 9 and Saturday, May 10, with classes scheduled to resume Monday, May 12. While citing “deteriorating law and order situation” as the reason for the decision, officials did not specify any particular security threats. The education department has directed all institutions to comply with the order and advised students to monitor official communications for updates. Agencies Following the directives from the Punjab government, the Rawalpindi Board of Intermediate and Secondary education (BISE) has postponed all examinations and practical tests scheduled for Friday, May 9, 2025. The notification issued on Thursday will affect all Intermediate Part-I written papers and Matric Part-I practical papers. According to the details, Muhammad Adnan Khan, Chairman Board said that a revised schedule for the exams will be announced later. “Candidates will be formally notified through official channels once new dates are finalized”, he said. The Board’s spokesman, Arsalan Cheema has advised the students to regularly check the board’s official website and media for updates regarding the rescheduled examinations. The Punjab government has already announced immediate closure of all educational institutions across the province. Earlier, the British Council cancelled all scheduled afternoon examinations in Lahore on Thursday, citing heightened security risks amid rising tensions between India and Pakistan. The decision affects GCE, IGCSE, IELTS, and University of London assessments set to take place in the city’s venues during the PM session.
