The Punjab Water and Sanitation Authority (PWSA) has urged all five Water and Sanitation Agencies (WASAs) to finalize their monsoon preparations by May 31. This directive comes just ahead of the rainy season, which is expected to begin on June 15. PWSA Director General Tayyab Farid emphasized the need for urgent action during a recent performance review meeting.

Farid highlighted several key tasks that need to be completed. These include cleaning sewer lines, repairing heavy machinery, and setting up monsoon camps. He also stressed the importance of improving revenue recovery to ensure smooth operations for essential water and sewerage services.

During the meeting, WASA Rawalpindi Managing Director Muhammad Saleem Ashraf reported on his agency’s progress. He mentioned that the cleaning of sewer lines was already underway and would meet the deadline. Furthermore, he confirmed that functional heavy machinery is in place to respond swiftly to emergencies.

WASA Rawalpindi has also identified low-lying areas with the help of the district administration. Trained staff and machinery will be deployed to these areas during heavy rainfall. Additionally, the agency will conduct mock drills in collaboration with Rescue 1122. To further support the community, five monsoon camps will operate around the clock, and a control room will be established to monitor the situation and handle complaints efficiently.
