A strong earthquake shook Islamabad and various cities in Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Tremors were notably felt in Rawalpindi, Lahore, and others. People rushed out of their homes and offices in panic. Many recited prayers for safety as they evacuated. The International Seismological Center reported the earthquake’s magnitude at 5.9 and a depth of 69 kilometers. Tremors reached distant areas like Srinagar and Jalalabad, Afghanistan. Meanwhile, the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) Punjab confirmed similar readings but noted a deeper epicenter of 94 kilometers. Importantly, this is the second significant earthquake in the region within just a week. Previously, on April 12, residents also felt tremors across various locations. This included Islamabad, Rawalpindi, and towns in both Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Earlier, that quake had a magnitude of 5.5 and a depth of 12 kilometers. Its epicenter was located about 60 kilometers northwest of Rawalpindi. The recent seismic activity has heightened concerns among residents in the affected areas.
