It is with profound sorrow that we announce the passing of Prof. Dr. Khurshid Ahmad, recipient of the Nishan-e-Imtiaz, Founding Chairperson of ILM Trust and the University of Management and Technology (UMT). A distinguished Pakistani economist, scholar, visionary, and an enduring source of wisdom, Prof. Ahmad departed this world on April 13, 2025, at the age of 93 in Leicester, UK. His demise signifies the end of an era in Islamic scholarship and socio-economic thought. Prof. Ahmad was renowned for his pioneering work in Islamic economics, for which he received the Islamic Development Bank Award in 1988. He was also honored with the prestigious King Faisal International Prize for Service to Islam in 1990. He founded several key institutions, including the Islamic Foundation in Leicester, UK, and the Institute of Policy Studies in Islamabad, leaving an indelible mark both in Pakistan and internationally. In public service, he served as a Senator (1985-1997), Federal Minister for Planning, Deputy Chairman of the Planning Commission of Pakistan, and Chairman of the Senate Standing Committee on Finance, Economic Affairs, and Planning. His advisory roles influenced policy and thought leadership across the Muslim world. His intellectual legacy endures through his extensive body of work, including over 70 books, hundreds of articles, and the institutions he established.
