Wheat imports into the country during first four months of current financial year registered 100 per cent decreased as compared to the imports of the corresponding period of the last year. During the period from July-October 2023-24, country spent $166.633 million on the import of over 556,903 metric tons of wheat to fulfill the local requirements, which was recorded at zero during the same period of current financial year, according the data of the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics. Meanwhile, pulses imports also went down by 7.27 percent as 430,177 metric tons of pulses valued at $287.837 million as against the imports of 516,666 metric tons costing $321.140 million of the same period of last year, it added. However, fertilizer imports into the country have seen a significant increase of 121.36% in the first four months of the current financial year (July-October 2024) compared to the imports of the corresponding period of the last year. During this period, the country imported over 612,622 metric tons of fertilizers valued at $374.876 million, a sharp rise from 334,675 metric tons worth $169.262 million in the corresponding months of 2023, it added.
