KARACHI: A team of Sindh Wildlife Department (SWD) officials released 7 peregrine falcons and one laggar falcon on Thursday in Khar Centre of Kirthar National Park. Officials of World Wide Fund for Nature-Pakistan (WWF-Pakistan) were also present at the occasion. The released birds were confiscated on Wednesday at Toll Plaza Karachi by the SWD officials. They were being illegally taken in a local bus from Dera Murad Jamali Balochistan. The smugglers, identified as Muhammad Saleem and Muhammad Yaqoob, were fined Rs 50,000 by Sindh Wildlife Department. The peregrine falcon is internationally endangered and included in International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN)’s Red List. The peregrine falcon’s poaching, trade and hunting is illegal.
