Karachi: The Sindh High Court on Thursday extended protective bail granted to Pakistan People’s Party’s leader Sharjeel Inam Memon in a case relating to alleged illegal adjustment, allotment and consolidation of state lands in favour of a private real estate developer. A division bench of SHC headed by Ahmed Ali Sheikh heard Sharjeel Inam Memon’s petition for grant to bail in a NAB inquiry against him for alleged illegal allotment/consolidation and adjustment of government lands in Malir. The court extended the interim bail granted to the former Sindh Information Minister in the case till September 29, 2017. The NAB special prosecutor told the court that inquiry against the minister had been completed and it was forwarded to chairman NAB for approval to file reference against him. During previous hearing, a special prosecutor for the national anti-graft watchdog had informed the court that Memon and Malir Development Authority’s managing director had played a key role in illegal allotment of thousands of acres of the state land in Malir to Bahria Town. Such illegal land allotments had caused loss worth billions of rupees to the national coffers, he added. The prosecutor had further claimed that Memon, who was serving as provincial minister for the local government department, was involved in the illegal land allotment. He further claimed that the bureau had gathered undeniable evidence against the former minister and other accused. Published in Daily Times, August 18th 2017.
