There really isn’t a specific season for Lahoris to indulge in particular seasonal foods. We have personally seen Lahoris feasting on fish and washing it down with orange juice in summer, while in winter there is a long queue outside all the leading ice cream and gelato stores. There simply needs to be a fresh and an insatiable appetite for food and voila, we take our cars and our friends and head over to wherever the Lahori heart desires. Having said that, when there really is a particular season for a certain type of food, do you believe Lahoris would not stock up for it? Samosa and pakkorra vendors have been experiencing sky-rocketing sales since Ramadan, and normally that subsides once the holy month is over, however not this time. As soon as Ramadan ended, along came the monsoon showers and the rainy season, and so with a break of a few days (Lahoris are also human after all), people were seen diligently heading over to order their share of samosas and pakkorras with all their might. One would think samosas can only be taken as a snack and once that craving is quenched, we would crave for something more fulfilling like a burger or a heavy sandwich or even something sweet like lava cake, etc. Keeping that mind, the creative team behind Awesamosas, came up with a menu dedicated wholly and solely to the love of samosas, where almost every meal imaginable is based on a samosa. Don’t believe me? Let me explain. With a something for everyone approach, Daniyal Noorani of Awesamosas, while talking exclusively to Daily Times, presented his newest menu to us where we saw a litany of various samosas with every imaginable filling. STRENGTHS: There is the pizza samosa with a sausage and cheese filling that truly tastes divine. Then there is also the traditional minced meat samosa along with various potato ones as well. There are chutneys and mayonnaise dips to go with these mouth-watering delicacies, and then who can forget the refreshers that help one wash these down? The new drinks menu called the Specialty Drinks section, have three newest additions. There is the Rose Mojito priced at Rs 150. It’s a fine blend of the traditional Rooh Afza, with a touch of rose and lots of refreshing soda water. We also tried their Iced Khoobsuratea priced at Rs 200. However, it was the Pinay Ko Lassi available at Rs 250, which truly caught our attention. Aptly titled, the drink is a fusion of a Pina Colada and the traditional lassi. Rich in taste and fulfilling in all its ingredients, this one in particular would be a sellout this season to go along with the variety of samosas on offer. For all the fastfood lovers out there too bothered to indulge in a samosa, and who like their meal all big and hearty, there is the Burger Mosa, with an add on cheese samosa patty option. It’s available for Rs 500 only, where there’s a thick beef patty with lots of vegetables inside and then a thin samosa layer with cheese in it. Just writing about it makes me salivate. It’s rich and flavourful and leaves behind a sweet satisfaction. Talking about sweets, the brains behind Awesamosas have brought forth sweet samosas with different fillings like apple jam and Nutella chocolate. Enjoy these sweet treats with a scoop of vanilla ice cream and have a samosa-full day! The prices are reasonable, the meals are hearty and a constant feeling of enjoying a hygienic meal is in the air. WEAKNESSES: I do feel that there should not be a dearth of chicken samosa burgers at the outlet as many do not always opt for the beef one. The iced teas could perhaps be available in more flavours.
