KARACHI: The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) on Saturday arrested Nasir Abbas, the Karachi Development Authority (KDA) director general (DG), on charges of having three passports.

Under FIR 320/2017, Section 6(1) (1) (c) Passport Act 1974, lodged by Muhammad Shoaib, Inspector FIA Regional Passport Office Karachi, officials of FIA handcuffed Abbas.

Consequent upon enquiry 45/2017, of FIA AHY Circle Karachi, it transpired that accused Nasir Abbas BPS-20 official, being a government servant, had obtained three passports, including an official blue international travel book.

Nasir had lied about the passports, stating that the passports had been missing.

Declaring his profession as businessman instead of government servant, he had traveled a lot during the past 20 years.

The Passport Office granted him passports ignoring the facts that he had already two passports. Previous passport bearing KQ-1013821 was reported lost with profession as businessman. Whereas, he mentioned his profession as government servant while applying for subsequent passports. FIA had started inquiry under instructions of the FIA director.

During the initial investigation, the Regional Passport Office found that in the column of profession of the applicant, the accused had declared his profession wrongly. The inquiry revealed that he had travelled on passport no A-93877 to Canada as a businessman instead of government servant.

Meanwhile, the National Accountability Bureau and FIA and Anti Corruption Establishment had nabbed Fareed Sheikh, Additional Director Recovery and Javed Ahmad, Special Officer to DG KDA on charge of land corruption worth billions of rupees.
