LGD seeks names for new DG

KARACHI: Following arrest of Nasir Abbas, DG Karachi Development Authority KDA, by Federal Investigating Agency (FIA) for having three passports, the Local Government Department (LGD) has sought list of senior officials of KDA from the department for appointment of new Director General.

Ramzan Awan, Secretary LGD has informed the new DG would be appointed upon the return of Jam Khan Shoro, Minister Local Government to Karachi within a couple of days. The appointment for the post lies in the domain of Sindh government and we would try to appoint a senior official with repute, he informed.

If no one from the department will be available in accordance with the criterion, appointment of chief of KDA would be made from any other department of Sindh government, he informed. Ramzan said because of non cadre executive post, any one outside KDA could be appointed to run the entity.

Meanwhile, three persons including an official of Karachi Development Authority (KDA) have been nabbed by FIA following revelation during interrogation arrested Nasir Abbas, DG KDA.

An official of KDA Land Department, Shahzad Ahmad and two private facilitators Hanif Patni and Shayyam Patni were arrested on charge of sending land and other corruption money abroad.

The officials of FIA informed those arrested accused were being interrogated on these charges including China Cutting, money laundering and bullies of rupees corruption.

National Accountability Bureau, Anti Corruption Establishment and other law enforcement agencies have also interrogated Nasir Abbas during his detention. The officials said that they have also collected information about 16 ST plots in Gulistan-e-Jauhar, which had been given to private parties on meage amount against their respective market value. These plots should have been put on open auction but this practice has been ignored, they added.

It was revealed during interrogation that 154 plots in block 6, Gulistan-e-Jauhar had been allotted in name alternate plots, thus depriving the original allotees of these plots. It was also come into light that the amalgamation and commercialisation and change of land utilisation status process have been wrongly practiced.
