LAHORE: The main procession of Youm-e-Ashur (Muharram 10) was taken out from Nisar Haveli, Mochi Gate, on late Saturday night under strict security measures. The procession would pass through its traditional route, including Imambargah Syed Wajid Ali Shah, Chowk Nawab Sahib, Koocha Qazi Khana, Imambargah Molvi Feroz Ali, Koocha Miskeenan, Mohalla Peer Gillanian, Imambargah Syed Rajab Ali Shah, Chau-Hatta Mufti Baqir, Chowk Kotwali, Kashmiri Bazaar, Sonehri Masjid, Dabbi Bazaar, Gumti Bazaar, Syed Mittha Bazaar, Tehsil Bazaar, Bazaar Hakimaan, Ucchi Masjid, Bhatti Chowk, Karbala Gamay Shah, Islampura, Jain Mandir, Old Anarkali, Ghazi Abad, Nicholson Road and Imamia Colony. Meanwhile, security had been beefed up by the city police and other law enforcement agencies. A number of closed circuit television cameras had been installed on the route of the main procession. Personnel of Elite Force, Mujahid Force, Dolphin Squab, Quick Response Force, Tiger Squad would continue to patrol the city’s roads until the culmination of the main procession today (Sunday). Talking to Daily Times, Capital City Police Officer (CCPO) Amin Wains said that the city police would leave no stone unturned for safeguarding the life and property of the citizens. He said that harmony and peace would be ensured on Youm-e-Ahsur and any negligence would not be spared in this regard. He said that conscious and informed citizens were the best line of defence against the scourge of terrorism and other heinous crimes. “If we all play our role as responsible citizens we can foil nefarious designs of the country’s enemies.” He added that all senior police officers would monitor the security arrangements in their respective areas on Ashura.
