Sir: Yet another outbreak of bird flu has been detected in Karachi. But this time around, as opposed to earlier, I feel the media is slacking in spreading awareness and messages of precautionary measures to consumers. Television channels particularly, should keep the country informed and updated of such crucial developments, and more still, keep them clued-up on expert opinions. It is said that prevention is the best cure; if people are aware of the dangers of a disease, and are informed of how to prevent their outbreak, the risks of infection and spread will be greatly reduced. However, it should be remembered that the media should depend on careful and qualified medical experts to comment and not spread misconceptions and urban myths that only spread fear and no real information about diseases.
