Sir: Pakistan has seen one of the worst implications of too much interference of religion in state affairs in the recent past. Religion is certainly an important part of our lives. However, in the recent past, we have seen that too much intrusion in the state policies by religious parties has resulted in confusion and even unrest. The issues raised in the name of religion have so far been highlighted by the religious groups to increase thieir popularity. It had nothing to do with the service to Islam. But, unfortunately, due to lack of education and awareness, these so-called religious leaders easily fool our people. We have never seen these people struggling for the development of Islamic institutions that are an important part of an Islamic welfare state. Sadly, politics and power are the priorities of these religious groups. All of us must work for the reformation of our state so that Pakistan can develop in the real sense. SHER ZAMAN Islamabad
