Sir: Fakhra Younis, a victim of an acid attack allegedly carried out by her husband Bilal Khar, the son of former PPP leader Ghulam Mustafa Khar, committed suicide by jumping from the sixth floor of her flat in Rome. The issue that the government should concentrate on is the effective implementation of legislation on the commercial sale of acids that are freely available in the market. Acid-throwing incidents can be substantially reduced if the availability of acids is restricted/prohibited. There is an urgent need to fight against these heinous crimes at all levels; simple lip service will be of no use any longer. DR IRFAN ZAFAR Islamabad
