Sir: The US Congressman Dana Rohrabacher conducted a hearing and then a resolution on Balochistan in February. It said that the Baloch have a history much older than that of Pakistan. The hearing also pointed out that before 1948 Balochistan was an independent state. The action was taken due to the chaotic state of the province. There are daily killings; bullet-riddled bodies are found all over Balochistan. After the resolution, many Baloch leaders and guerrilla fighters were consulted by the Pakistani government to talk about the issue at the forum of an All Parties Conference (APC), but no Baloch leader seemed ready to talk. The Balochistan problem has worsened and such negotiations, whenever the government tried any, have never been effective. Pakistan’s negligence of Balochistan has been there since 1948 and if the situation is not addressed on a top propriety basis, things will spiral further into mayhem. HANNI MOHAMMAD BALOCH Quetta
