Sir: I appreciate the Sindh Institute of Urology and Transplant (SIUT) and the Transplant Society of Pakistan (TSP) for celebrating April 7 as ‘Organ Donation Day’. Our country is in short supply of cadaver organ donations, because of which around 50,000 lives are lost every year. In countries like ours, it is very difficult to mould public opinion in this direction. There are a lot of myths, superstitions and misconceptions associated with cadaver organ donation. There is a dire need to create awareness and dispel misconceptions associated with this noble cause. President of Pakistan Asif Ali Zardari has pledged to donate his organs. This message could be used to encourage people to do the same. We should also engage religious personalities to bring the message home. DR SAIFUR REHMAN Islamabad
