Sir: As Pakistan is short of electricity and heavy load shedding is carried out to keep supply and demand in balance, advertisements are run on national television and in newspapers giving light-saving lessons to consumers. The irony is that streetlights in most of the areas of Karachi remain illuminated not only at night but all day long. On the other hand, there are areas where streetlights are almost non-existent. People literally grope in darkness to find their way. It is amazing the type of governance operational in this country. It seems as if we are living on an ad hoc basis. No planning, no destination, no vision. A complete loss of national character is visible across the governing cadre. MUHAMMAD NOUMAN RASHEED Karachi
